Porsche Singapore's 'The Red Thread' Wows at ART SG 2025
Porsche’s installation celebrates Singapore’s 60th anniversary with 60 shades of red.
Porsche Singapore is merging the worlds of automotive excellence and contemporary art with the debut of “The Red Thread: Past, Present, Future,” a striking 30-foot installation by celebrated artist Red Hong Yi. Unveiled at ART SG 2025, this immersive piece marks a significant moment as Singapore commemorates 60 years of independence, reflecting both a national milestone and Porsche’s longstanding commitment to creativity.
Drawing inspiration from Porsche’s Paint-to-Sample catalog, the installation explores 60 distinct shades of red—from the nostalgic allure of vintage Peru Red to the bold modernity of Carmine Red. Flanked by mirrors, the artwork produces an endless visual cascade that invites onlookers to ponder the continuity of time and the interconnected tapestry of history, identity, and innovation. A subtle, yet unmistakable, nod to the iconic Porsche 911 is woven into the design, underscoring the brand’s enduring legacy of craftsmanship and evolution.
Red Hong Yi, renowned for transforming everyday materials into compelling art, described the project as a dialogue with time itself. “Together with Porsche, we’ve created an artwork that speaks to the essence of time – how our past shapes our present and inspires our future,” she explained, encapsulating the spirit of the collaboration. The installation, with its rich array of reds, not only pays homage to Porsche’s storied heritage but also mirrors the vibrant journey of a nation that has continually reinvented itself over six decades.
Adding to the experience, complementary events at Porsche Studio Singapore have enriched the narrative of the installation. Highlights include the unveiling of a one-of-a-kind 911 Dakar art car by automotive artist Chris Dunlop and an engaging panel discussion featuring the creative minds behind the project. Marketing Director Yannick Ott of Porsche Asia Pacific summed up the initiative by emphasizing its dual focus on creativity and tradition—a fitting tribute as Singapore steps boldly into the future while honoring its past.
